Design Hive…A Buzz with Activity

Despite the rain and mugginess of this past Saturday, the Maria Baldwin School in Cambridge was buzzing with people and activity all day long.

Set to funky DJ music, the Design Hive is a brand new weekly design market organized by Val Fox, which brings together local designers and residents for a fun holiday market. What better way to do your Christmas and holiday shopping than at a local market with one-of-a-kind gifts?

This past Saturday was Jute & Jackfruit’s first weekend participating in the Design Hive and we had a great time. A big “thank you” to those of you who came by our booth and who purchased JJF items. It was so nice to meet so many new people!

Once again, our Nahui Ollin candy wrapper bags were a huge hit—these undeniably make wonderful holiday presents. They are popular with just about every one. What’s not to like? They are environmentally-friendly, hand crafted, stunningly beautiful and also socially conscious.

This past Saturday we showcased new styles (not yet one our website)—such as the flowers collection (sold out within 2 hours), Captain Tootsie (comic book series) and Tootsie pop series. All of these were popular.

We also had some new items at the show such as our Engage Green bags, which are made out of recycled soda bottles and our paper collection (made out of recycled paper) and cork handbag collection. People seemed to really like these as well.

Despite the heat too, women were trying on clothes in our booth all day long. Hopefully our next time there will be a bit cooler!

For those of you who have cocktail parties lined up for the season, stop by our booth and you will find some smashing organic and sustainable dresses to wow your friends.

What better way to celebrate the holidays this year than to buy green, local and hand crafted—gifts with a triple bottom line. We will have our eco-friendly gift-wrapping, too so plan on doing some Christmas and holiday shopping at Jute & Jackfruit.
