‘Be Sweet’ Comes to Jute and Jackfruit!

Be Sweet’s mission is to bring socially and environmentally products to fashionable customers. Each Be Sweet product aims to evoke an individual style and help support community development around the world. That’s precisely why Jute and Jackfruit is very excited to reveal our new “Be Sweet” collection, because the mission and vision are all in line with Jute & Jackfruit’s goals. We have custom ordered a collection of mohair scarves, shawls and handbags by women artisans in Cape Town, South Africa.

Each item is hand made and uses all natural or recycled materials. For example, the scarves are made with fluffy and or baby mohair.  The one-of-a-kind “hooked rug” handbags (featured below) are made with recycled T-shirt material. Bags are lined interesting cotton fabric patterns with two inside pockets and sturdy suede handles.

Be Sweet has been working to empower the women of the Xhosa Tribe right outside Cape Town, South Africa, since 2003, by giving them the opportunity to use their skills to gain a fair wage and ensure a brighter future for their children. The women make mohair, bamboo and organic cotton yarns, accessories and home goods. Each women chooses the color in which she likes to work, because it symbolizes aspects about her personality. In this way, a purchase from Be Sweet is not only a beautiful accessory, but is also a part of the women who crafted it.

Founder, Nadine Storyk Curtis, said, “I started Be Sweet to support artisans by bringing their products to a wider market of conscience consumers interested in beautiful things that fund community development. Our products embody the ideals of beauty, creativity and resourcefulness.”
