Clay-Dyed Organic Clothing: Earth Creations Lead the Pack

The idea behind Earth Creations originated as green as they come: on an off-road bike ride. Founder Joy Maples went on a ride one day after a rainstorm, and got red clay all over her white shirt. After numerous loads of laundry, the color of the clay refused to wash off. In fact, “After years of washing, the mud was still there” said Joy.
Years later, when Joy met Martin, he was fascinated that her shirt, shoes and socks from that fateful bike ride remained red. As a chemist and environmentalist, he naturally began looking into the natural composition of red clay and its potential as a dye for material. Nearly ten years later, Earth Creations still uses the original all-natural dying techniques Martin developed.
While Earth Creations has grown immensely, expanding Martin’s original inspiration into a full line of T-shirts for men, women and children, as well as a casual line of clothing for women, they have stayed true to that original inspiring idea of dying clothing with natural materials such as sandstone, clay and silt. They also have maintained environmentally sound production techniques in all areas possible; they use low-impact and natural clays to color all their clothing and make sure to use fabrics that were grown in a sustainable manner, such as hemp and organic cotton.
Earth Creations is not only devoted to sustaining a healthy environment, but also to sustaining a healthy and happy worker population. The majority of Earth Creations products (with the exception of the Kenya V designer line) are manufactured at a factory in rural Alabama, where founder Joy and Martin support their Sweatshop-free philosophy by paying all workers a fair wage. Joy and Martin are proud of the fact that their employees love what they do, and support the company in everyway possible. They give their workers a face and voice by having biographies for each of them that even include their favorite free time activities!
We here at Jute & Jackfruit love all that Earth Creations has to offer, and here are couple items deserve some special attention.

Long sleeve crewneck in Silt, featured at the top of this page, is elegant in its simplicity. Easily dressed-up for a night on the town with the right bag and beaded necklace, it can also easily be worn at home. This shirt is stretchy, and crafted from organic cotton and hemp, and colored with natural “silt” dye.
The long sleeve crewneck also perfectly matched the Dharma pant also carried by Earth Creations in the color of “silt.” These pants hang just above the ankle, and are perfect for Yoga, or another of our your favorite aerobic activities!
The Traverse Top in Rose Quartz is definitely worth highlighting. It is made from beautifully crisscrossed material, made from hemp and organic cotton and dyed with clay. The material stretches, making this comfortable enough to lounge around your house, and stylish enough to wear out! Fitted with flare arms and soft stretch material. As you can see, the traverse top compliments the Dharma pant in Rosequartz nicely.
