Rene Geneva has become an internationally recognized designer in just a few short years. We welcome her to the Jute & Jackfruit.

About Rene Geneva
It all started back in 1993 when Rene Geneva received a sewing machine as inheritance from her grandmother. Ever since then, Rene Geneva has been exploring her ideas and crafting them into unique fashion sensibilities that is now known internationally. Rene began with the label of Faernyn’s Grove in 1997, which is now the brand name of her corsetry, and after opening her own design studio in Austin, Texas in 2002, never looked back.

Rene is also one of the few eco-designers that also custom designs wedding gowns as well. Her gowns reveal intense craftsmanship, artfully blending feminine styles of the past and present, to create unforgettable and stunning pieces.

Rene Geneva is a pioneer when it comes to environmental and social integration into her practice. She is one of the first to combine ethical sourcing with organic and sustainable fabrics. Early on, Rene began working with a small group in Pakistan before establishing a relationship with a fair trade women’s textile cooperative in Nicaragua. She trained the women to make her clothing just the way she did and has been committed to her relationship with her producers ever since. The majority of Jute and Jackfruit’s collection is all made in the USA, but is made with strict adherence to Fair Labor standards.

Rene has stayed true to the environment starting with her fabrics all the way through production, sewing and finishing. First, she sources only organic and sustainable fabrics: organic cotton, organic wool, hemp, bamboo and soy. Rene also innovates by working with the Jubilee House, a non-profit organization devoted to the success of the fair Trade coop in Nicaragua and this facility is powered mostly by solar power. Known as the “Sun Power Project”, Rene Geneva helps communities in need have access to solar electricity. She is now working to create a program that will help to educate women and provide skilled jobs in Nicaragua.

Ms. Geneva has also used her unique relationship with indigenous population’s to gain access to rare organic textiles, such as a fabric made from the bark of trees which she calls “peace” silks. In 2005, she was able to introduce her first completely organic and eco-friendly clothing line, which has only been growing in popularity ever since.
