Feral Childe Spring 2009 Eco-Collection at Jute and Jackfruit: Letters from Yosemite
Our Feral Childe Spring eco-collection just arrived and we are delighted to introduce the playful sophistication of this creative line inspired by Yosemite National Park.
Feral Childe is a bi-coastal female design team using sustainable and locally sourced fabrics. We here at Jute and Jackfruit have had the pleasure of working with Alice Wu and Moriah Carlson of Feral Childe since fall 2008. We love the hand-crafted uniqueness of their designs and fabrics. Feral Childe hand dyes, hand paints and hand screen prints a majority of their fabrics and they make their own buttons (such as dog and puzzle shape buttons). As a result, every item has an artisan look and feel.
Their new Spring 2009 collection is inspired by elements of the natural beauty and diverse complexity of Yosemite. From the playful to the adventurous, you’ll find depictions of rocks, rivers and valleys of the natural world.
Check out our video here or look at each piece individually.
Ansel Coat. Named after Ansel Adams, the most famous photographer of Yosemite, this coat is a versatile Spring jacket, easily worn indoors or out. The coat features two large stylized pockets and flare, pleated sleeves, along with bright orange (almost fluorescent painted rocks on the hemp-cotton fabric). The coat is artsy, one-of-a-kind, very modern and hip.
Pocket Rock Skirt. One can see the beauty of Yosemite mirrored in this whimsical, classy and eco-chic “Pocket Rock” skirt duo. Made from a mill-end cotton and hemp blend (same as the Ansel Coat), this skirt is an easy addition to any Spring wardrobe. Both the jacket and the skirt are unique, stylish numbers. The pocket rock skirt has an elastic waist as well as two rock shaped pockets to hold whatever you need.
The Picnic Blazer is one of the most unique items of the season. This multi-layered and lined blazer is a must have. Made with mill-end charcoal and grey seersucker cotton and lined with colorful contrasting design, the piece is a work of art. Find two bright yellow hand-cast puzzle rock buttons in front as well as two perfectly placed pockets.

Feral Childe hearts Jute & Jackfruit! Thank you for featuring Feral Childe’s Yosemite Collection! We had a great time at the trunkshow at Artwear in Arlington last month. You are both wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed meeting everyone who came to the event. Did you know that Feral Childe’s roots are in Boston? Anyway, it was a wonderful homecoming for us and we hope to return to Beantown in the near future! Hugs, Feral Childe
