The Green Festivals™ is a joint project between Global Exchange and Green America, and is the largest sustainability event in the world. We are very, very excited to be a part of this event once again this year and are getting ready for our road trip there, starting this Thursday!

Last year marked our very first Green Festivals as an exhibitor and we had such a great time that we had to sign up again. This year, we are now an approved member of Green America, so it will be even more significant for us to be there– as an official part of this highly esteemed green community in America.

Come visit us if  you are anywhere in the area, and if you would like to receive a free guest pass, be the first few to comment on this post (or send us an email) and we might just have a free pass left for you.

Not familiar with Green Festivals? Come see for yourself what is sure to be one of the most dynamic and  interesting eco-events in America this year. Find delicious organic and vegan food, free samples of all your favorite organic and fair trade brands, learn about new organic and fair trade companies, listen to well-known speakers such as Joel Salatin (from Omnivore’s Dilemma), Dr. Cornell West, Ed Begley (lifelong actor and founder of Begley’s Best eco-friendly cleaning products) and many others!

Have kids? The Green Festivals is very kid friendly and attracts many families year after year. Find the kids corner with tons of activities for your little ones, hands on things to do as well as all of the kid-friendly holiday shopping that you could want to do (all in one place!). Find also educational activities, live music, green living-focused films and workshops, and when it’s time for a break, you’ll have your choice of organic and vegetarian cuisine. See the most recent developments in renewable energy and green technology; sample Fair Trade chocolate and coffee (yes, they really do taste better); and learn how to invest in your community, green your home and avoid products made in sweatshops.

Green Festivals is a weekend event to celebrate living a more sustainable life, to bring together like minded people, and to foster the environmental and social justice community in the DC area.

In addition to being accepted into Green America’s approved network of businesses committed to social and environmental responsibility, Jute and Jackfruit is also a proud supporter of “Fair Trade the White House” campaign (who will also be at the Green Festivals!). The goal of this campaign is to encourage Michelle Obama to join the Fair Trade movement by declaring the White House a “Fair Trade Home”. Jute and Jackfruit is also a proud member of One Percent for the Planet, whereby we donate one percent of our revenue to environmental non-profits focused on crucial issues such as conservation, climate change and biodiversity.

The DC Green Festivals will include interviews, speeches and question and answer sessions with more than 125 authors, green living and sustainability leaders and educators. More than 350 eco-friendly businesses will be showcased as exhibitors at the event as well. Jute and Jackfruit will be part of the eco-fashion section. Come check us out – we will be bringing our Indigenous Designs collection, Rebe, Kelly Lane, Feral Childe, our candy wrapper purses, soda pull tab handbags and more!

This will be an ideal place to do your holiday shopping! Get it all done way ahead of time, while feeling great about your gifts. Going fair trade and environmentally friendly with holiday gifts not only keeps on giving but empowers producers and artisans here in the US and all over the world at the same time.

Other exhibitors to look for (by the way there will be several hundred so something for everyone!):
- Aveda Institute
- Abrams design build
- Carbon free DC
- Eco generation
- Green label organic

We look forward to meeting you!
