In case you are not familiar with Alpaca, Alpaca is a fiber much like wool in that it retains heat when wet, is very warm, and long lasting. It is an ideal winter fiber.
Alpaca fiber comes from the Alpaca species, a domesticated species of South American resembling a small llama. Alpacas are kept in herds that graze in the high altitudes of the Andes. The alpaca fiber used to make these scarves comes from Peru. The fiber is hand woven by women’s weaving cooperatives which are part of Indigenous Designs. These cooperatives are fair trade and have been in operation for almost 15 years, forming a truly sustainable and socially conscious endeavor. Through the purchase of these scarves, you support one of the first and only fair trade, ethical and organic clothing initiatives in the United States, supporting women and their communities in Peru.
Hurry up, and get these beautiful, hand made and all natural scarves while they last! Click here to visit the Weekly Special page at Jute and Jackfruit.
