I don’t have any quotes, but I can say that my father sends me a bouquet of flowers every Valentine’s Day no matter how much I plead with him to save his money. It’s a very nice thing for him to do, and makes me smile.

Love is an open-ended discussion
A question yet to be answered
A field so great
One cannot picture the end

It is a small box
In which I carry your picture
And a match
(Just in case)

Little things that will change you forever
may appear from way out of the blue
Making fools of everybody who don’t understand.
This is love, this is la la la la love, this is love.

love like you’ve never been hurt before…

-i don’t remember the author of this quotation (it’s actually longer, but i only included the love relevant part) but this has always stuck with me. Often times, bad relatioships can lead people to be timid and afriad—but we should all “love like [we]‘ve never been hurt before.

I can’t think of a quote, so my favorite Valentine’s Day memory is from when I was 13. My “boyfriend” had broken up with me a few days before Valentine’s Day. I thought the world would end, and that no one would ever love me! My dad went out and bought me a dozen roses and took me on a father-daughter “date” for V-Day. He told me how great I was, and that one day I would find the right guy! It was my best V-Day ever! :)

Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. ~Kahlil Gibran~

“Love is lovelier the second time around!” My birthday is on Valentine’s Day, and being chosen the winner would make a fantastic birthday gift!

This is my favorite quote, because it was said to me by my husband after being together 27+ years: “I only want to be with you, I love being with you so much, I feel like I’m just marking time all day at work until I can be with you again.”

Now you made me tear up! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

WendyJanuary 31st, 2010 at 11:21 pm

“Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to aery thinness beat.

If they be two, they are two so
As stiff twin compasses are two ;
Thy soul, the fix’d foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if th’ other do.

And though it in the centre sit,
Yet, when the other far doth roam,
It leans, and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.

Such wilt thou be to me, who must,
Like th’ other foot, obliquely run ;
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
And makes me end where I begun.”

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”
-St. Augustine

Amazing, all quotes just fled my mind! So I will say my favorite valentine’s day moment was eating an amazing meal at a fondue restaurant (although we were so full it didn’t exactly inspire grand passion). Candlelight and feeding each other things dipped in chocolate..mmm!A

I don’t think of my husband as romantic and yet…. one night out of the blue he read me the following e e cummings poem. So much for me pidgeon holing him as unromantic….

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
– I Corinthians 13

My favorite quote about love comes from a song my husband wrote about me when we were dating (of course I’m partial!): “…suddenly I see your green eyes and realize, I think I’m falling in love, I think I’m falling for you, I think our love is enough, I think I’ll see this one through…”
