The Hills are Alive: Feral Childe Spring 2010 Arrives with the Sound of Music
Feral Childe’s new “Hills are Alive” Spring 2010 collection is sounding off some music at Jute and Jackfruit as we unveil the first wave of this Spring 2010 collection.
The first of our favorites is the Lovely Goatherd Coat (pictured above right). Yes, you read that right “Goatherd”– look closely and you will find hand drawn sketches by Feral Childe, inspired by ancient Japanese mountain drawings, repeated to form a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece. The coat can easily be worn as an indoor work dress shirt/jacket or outdoor jacket (as soon as the weather warms a bit). Defend against a bout of boredom on your morning commute by examining the sketches and uncover compelling details such mountains and rivers, bridges, cottages and more. So far, we have not found any goats but that doesn’t mean they are not there: let us know if you find any.
The coat is medium weight with two front pockets, a hood, two stylistic zips top front in which you can insert the ties (if you are not using the tie).
Pairing nicely with Coat and the goat theme are the Lederhosen leggings (pictured above). The Lederhosen’s carry the same goatherd sketches only this time on black fabric with contrasting white sketches. The leggings have mod ruching at the base, calling attention to the ankle and whichever shoes you choose to wear.
Finally, the super soft 100% organic cotton Pocket Cardigan is a seamless match to the above and to Feral Childe’s upcoming Spring collection (stay tuned). The cardigan adds a nice neutral to any outfit with subtle feminine, yet characteristically edgy design details. The cardigan can be worn over just about anything, and is not your usual cardigan. Impeccable design features include the double collar, nacre buttons, two front pockets, angled base and ruffled back. All combined, this cardie sets itself far apart from its competition and is truly one of the softest of the season. Lateral stripes of light and dark gray, create a soft heather color.
Feral Childe is the bi-coastal collaboration of Moriah Carlson of Brooklyn, New York, and Alice Wu of Oakland, California, specializing in handmade, artistically-inspired, and eco-conscious clothing. The Spring 2010 Feral Childe collection at Jute and Jackfruit is made primarily from organic cotton and hemp. The fabrics are sourced in the USA (mostly New York) as mill-ends, deadstock and overstock fabrics–and they are sewn New York’s Garment District. In addition, unused fabrics from production are incorporated into one-off styles, trims, accessories, or donated to schools and crafters. Jute and Jackfruit is excited to carry Feral Childe’s once again innovative collection as part of our eco and socially conscious boutique.
